Curriculum
The children are at the centre of everything we do at Chandlers Field.
Our curriculum is built on strong pedagogical principles, with every child encouraged to meet and achieve their potential. We make it our aim to discover what children are good at and use this to promote a positive attitude to learning.
Our curriculum reflects our values and equips children with life skills for today and beyond. It provides them with the knowledge, aspirations and the drive to succeed. Equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted within our curriculum, and we focus on accepting differences and challenging stereotypes.
We have implemented Sounds Write, Talk for Writing and Maths No Problem across the school. These are exciting enquiry-based approaches to teaching English and Maths where there are no limits to learning and there is a clear development of skills.
Our belief in the value of the creative arts has led to a dedicated Art Room to ensure that children have access to a wide variety of media and the space in which to experiment with it.
Our extensive school grounds enable us to deliver a rich curriculum of physical education promoting physical and mental wellbeing. The daily mile and skipping provide physical challenges and at break times the children have access to an outdoor gym, trim trail, ball zones as well as table tennis. Our Forest School enhances the curriculum by developing children’s speaking and listening, their scientific knowledge and creative skills in an alternative learning environment.
In line with our ethos and values of the school, we use MindUp. Our children respond to the social and emotional strategies, helping to build their resilience and self-awareness. It teaches them the skills and knowledge needed to regulate stress and emotion, to form positive relationships, and to act with kindness and compassion. This is in partnership with our PSHE approach, which we follow through Jigsaw.
Our curriculum is about achievement, enjoyment and enrichment, while meeting all the standards of the National Curriculum.
